Non-Stick Bandages and Nail Clippers
I have just a mile or two left to go. Short, sweet, and simple shopping list to stick to. Taking care of my skinned knee is on my mind. Non-stick pads, tape or maybe a bandage is called for. I will have to call it when I get to the CVS. Not my usual CVS, the one by work.
Turning off the highway my ring finger brushes my thumb. No, not the finger the fingernail. Well, shit, just plain shit. I do not have my nail clippers. had I not felt that edgy nail on my calloused thumb, it would be OK.
Flash. New shiny nail clippers. Maybe made in Japan. Likely China, but sharp. They are going on my key ring, no, in my desk. No, in the car. Not sure why I do not keep a nail clipper within arms reach at all times. Just like last time, these new, unblemished clippers, will come shining out of the clam shell packaging without a single fingerprint on them. Ready to sink the sharp, well honed blade into my nail, trimming carefully across, left to right. Finger after finger, thumbs last.
Like a new gadget at Christmas, I would take my time. But quickly take it. Right away. I need to get my time with this new treat. Again, the kids will end up with this one two. They are not made for that. The rebound of the bending metal goes away too quickly.
Better than being lost. I think. They have lost several. Sometimes I will find a part or two. Never the little part, the clip that secures the lever to the cutter. I bet we have 6 in our home somewhere. Like that one, the green handle model. It was sharper than any other I have had. A favorite. It was such a retreat to clip my nails with it. The boys never cared for it like I expected the should. But, it was smooth when it formed their grunge laden nails into a clean smooth curve.
Band Aid(r), house brand, tape, gauze, sealer, waterproof, paper, flex large, non-stick...
The complexity of the wound care aisle is not making this quick. Every time I see a better product, another one pops out. Distracted by the features of each item in the box. The quantity, the value, the ease of use for me. I have a hand full of products.
Time to select. Non-stick, large are a sure thing. The easy tear tape, yes, I will go with that too. 10 yards should be enough. The kids will find it in the car. No, not in the glove box, that is where I will keep it.
Time to check out. Battery for my watch, the wrong battery goes first. It is an exchange, credit to the running total of product. Mmm. Gum looks good. What type? Spearmint. Yes, but what brand?
Green Trident(r) on the counter, subtotal, less credit, pay now.
No cash back, no bag needed. That gum sounds good.
Back into the car, started, and unwrapping the gum. Great packaging on this. 60 pieces, but I will have one at a time.
Pulling off onto the frontage road, without having to move too quickly for oncoming traffic, could not have been smoother. Grating against my still calloused thumb, my ring finger poked and reminded me with a jarring reality. I think I just jumped out of my seat. In the car, I new that I missed my chance.
Not only did I miss it, I did not even try. I forgot the clippers. They were surely sitting right there. Crystal clear window in the packaging. A firm backer card that provides the contrast to the shiny, like new solution to my immediate problem.
I did not even try. I forgot about the gum. It has lost it's flavor already, and it is my turn at the 4-way stop.
Finally, the inner workings of your mind.
